CLARKSVILLE, TN – The City of Clarksville held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the Crossland Avenue extension of the Greenway.
Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Letourneau opened the ceremony by thanking all of those who contributed to making the project possible. She said this extension is one of three Clarksville Greenway projects taking place, and they are being funded by the Community Health Foundation through Aspire.
The second Clarksville Greenway extension currently being developed takes place at the terminus of the Red River Trail. As for the third extension, while it’s currently in the development and design phase, it’s going to go from Old Ashland City Road to the Bypass, according to Letourneau.
“Historically speaking, when you look at greenways, they raise the property values of the people that live along them, and they increase the health of the community due to the walkability. Long-term, it would be nice to think that we are going to take some of the traffic off (the roadways), because people will be able to bike or walk to work.”
Mayor Joe Pitts spoke of how grateful the City of Clarksville is for this next leg of the Greenway trail system.
“These kind of projects happen because we have many hands at work,” Pitts said. “Thank you to all of those that had a part in making this project happen. It’s a reminder that we do this not for us, but for the generations to come.”
