WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a new survey conducted by Gallup, the city of Clarksville, TN ranks number eight on the top 10 most obese communities in the U.S.
Gallup and Healthways surveyed 189 metro areas around the country, and the obesity rate was above 15 percent for all but one of the areas. Clarksville’s obesity rate was measured at 33.8 percent, a tie with Jackson, MS.
The most obese community is Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH at 39.5 percent of the population, with Boulder, CO rated the least obese city at 12.4 percent.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Healthy People program had a goal in 2010 of reducing obesity to 15 percent in each state. No state has achieved this, and Boulder is the only community so far to do so.
